Final Reflection

1.      After reading through my posts, I saw some that gave me PTSD and others that I actually enjoyed writing. Some of the assignments, in my opinion, required a lot of footwork and less writing. I always prefer to write more and do research over talking to people about my business idea that may never actually happen. 2.      One post I’ll remember for years to come was when I spoke to the AIDS patients who could vouch that marijuana helped with their pain. I remember one of the patients said, “It’s not about getting high, it’s about getting well.” That made me realize many patients take this seriously and have a dire need for this drug. I’m glad that I stepped outside my comfort zone and talked to these individuals about a touchy subject for some, but personal experience for them. 3.      At the end of this course, I can confidently say that I’ve learned more about what being an entrepreneur entails. ...

Venture Concept No. 2

Last year, the U.S. News and World Report ranked the University of Florida’s Shands Hospital as the second best hospital in Florida and one of the leading hospitals in cancer research. Because of this, people from all across the country have come here to Gainesville for treatment and specialty clinics. Any of the 100,000+ medical marijuana pa...

My exit strategy

1.      I will sell the company probably to a business or food and resource economics student looking to explore and capitalize on the medical marijuana industry within 5 years of business. A great selling point would be if recreational marijuana ever becomes legal in Florida, Mary Jane’s can expand to anyone 21 or older who uses the substance. 2.      Because I plan to have a career focused in journalism and working for big news organizations, I don’t have any interest in making Mary Jane’s a long-term job or family business. After starting the company and making enough profit to get myself an apartment in a city like New York or Chicago, I will sell the company and solely focus on my reporting career. 3.      In the beginning stages of Mary Jane’s, I was excited for the opportunities, but quickly realized there’s a lot of legalities around this industry. It would take a lot of time and court efforts...
