Celebrating Failure
1)
In order to be in good standing with my
sorority, we must earn a certain amount of involvement points between each big
function we have. Every semester before this one, I had been plenty involved by
participating in volunteer opportunities and playing intramural sports. However,
this semester I didn’t meet the minimum number of points and would pay a fine
if I attended our semi-formal event. As a result of this, I disappointed my
friends by not being there, and it was a bummer to my boyfriend we couldn’t
attend.
2)
I believe part of the reason I wasn’t as
involved was because I also had an internship this semester in which I spent my
class-free days working in a newsroom as a reporter. It was hard for me to
balance school work while focusing on preparing for my career, so adding social
involvement was hard. If anything, failing at having a social life taught me I
need better time management. I think it’d be helpful to take some time every
Sunday to plan out what my week entails and how I should best spend my time.
3)
Failure is definitely hard, but more so
disappointing. After failing, it’s common to get in your head and think you didn’t
try hard enough, or maybe this task is something you can’t do. But I think
every failure is a learning opportunity and another reason to fix your errors
and try again. Nothing is impossible, it just takes time to learn what the best
road to success is. Also, it’s important not to be embarrassed to ask for help,
as many times friends or family have had the problem you’re experiencing, and
they can provide wise words and valuable advice.
Hi Kristen! I could not agree more with you when you say that failure is a learning opportunity. Failure gives us a chance to be humbled and to re-evaluate ourselves. Failure is hard but it shoes what you are made of and test to see how bad do you really want what ever you are pursuing. Don't ever be afraid of failure, it will only make you better if you allow it to.
ReplyDeleteHi Kristen,
ReplyDeleteI like the way that you listed out this blog post. It made it easier to read and more enjoyable. I do feel bad that you did not get the necessary points to attend that event. However it sounds like you learned from your mistakes and that is what failure is all about. We must do better the next time.
